National Centre For Performing Arts, Mumbai
Melange and dancer Daksha Seth create RACHNA. A unique experiment
with designer weaves and dance movements. A collection of
bright yellow, hot pink, electric blue and aquamarine green
crinkle ensembles in geometric shapes. The shapes evolve
from, and convert into, Indian drapes.

DESIGN WORKSHOP
ITTC School, Vasco Da Gama.
Students from the age of 5 to 10 participated in a design
workshop to paint a T-shirt. Colour, design and graphic layout
were a major part of this extremely interesting interaction
between the designer and the young students who created inspiring
T-shirts, hand painting each creation themselves.

Wendell Rodricks designed the interiors, tableware and linen
for Goa's haute cuisine restaurant. As Director of Retreat
'N' Style India Pvt. Ltd. the success of the designer lends

JANUARY 1999
THE KHADI COLLECTION
Hotel Mandovi, Panaji-Goa.
Wendell Rodricks designed a range of handspun khadi (the
handwoven fabric of Mahatma Gandhi) for the Kasturba Gandhi
National Memorial Trust in Goa. The seventeen ensemble Khadi
Collection was supported by 120 garments that were a sellout
in under an hour. This collection was done for charity to
raise finances for the Trust to open a training centre for
women in Goa.

JUNE 1999
FRANCOS COCOSHELL EXHIBITION
Wendell Rodricks Design Space, Panjim, Goa.
Working closely with artisans of all types, Wendell Rodricks
each year promotes two artists at the Wendell Rodricks Design
Space. Franco fabricated the designer’s innovations in cocoshell
and coconut wood. Home décor items included “Pooja thalis”,
salt & pepper cruet sets, Goan candle chimneys with mother of
pearl, jewellery and bird homes for gardens. A collection that
generated much interest in this unusual material and gained
wide recognition for the artisan. |

COASTAL FANTASY
Oberoi Towers, Mumbai.
The Indian Express and The Oberoi Gourmet Club presented a coastal
fantasy by Wendell Rodricks in the grandiose lobby of the Oberoi
Towers, Mumbai. The designer presented a variety of styles in
colours of sand, laterite black, lagoon blue and aquamarine
green. Fabrics included a pioneering lazer cut fabric with a
three dimensional effect. |

BODY IN HARMONY
The Harmony Show, Mumbai
Renowned Goan Artist, Theodore Mesquita, known for his erotic pen
and ink artworks joined hands with the sensual style of Wendell
Rodricks in a unique artist-designer statement at one of the most
high profile art shows in India. Mesquita won the award for best
artist at the show becoming the first Goan to win the coveted award.

Giantti Show, Taj Crystal Room, Mumbai.
Turf Club, Pune Silk crepe anchored on invisible elastic thread
weave a skin-tight silhouette over supermodels at two fashion shows
in Mumbai and Pune. Second skin was commissioned by Giantti Jewellers,
Mumbai to launch their jewellery range.

CIRCUS OF EARTH AND SKY
Daksha Sheth Dance Academy, Tiruvanthapuram.
India’s renowned Kathak dancer commissioned Wendell Rodricks
to create the costumes for her new production which incorporates
Kerala martial arts, acrobatic ropes manoeuvres and free style
Indian dance. The designer spent time in Tiruvanthapuram to
work closely with the dancers creating the garments that showcased
in Scandinavia. |

Goa Marriott Resort, Goa.
Wendell Rodricks creates new designer jerseys for the Vasco
Sports Club team on the occasion of their Golden Jubilee. Using
the three prominent colours of the club Bleach, White and Red,
the designer creates a collection ranging from sporty casual
wear to elegant eveningwear. |

DE GOA COLLECTION
Cidade de Goa, Goa.
Commissioned by the Cidade de Goa to create a collection of
garments for this pioneering resort hotel, Wendell Rodricks
displayed a collection inspired by the Charles Correa architecture.
In white, black and the signature Charles Correa colours, the
collection launches the newly expanded lobby at a glittering
reception and dinner. |

OZONE
Goa Marriott Resort, Miramar
Wendell Rodricks was commissioned by the Goa Marriott Resort
to design the interiors of the lounge bar OZONE. The first ever
designer lounge in the country, Wendell Rodricks used the exterior
views as a base for the interiors. In pale blue with maritime
shapes and set under two dramatic sails, the wood, chrome and
light wood design details created a new design statement for
interiors. The photographs of OZONE appeared in many international
and Indian design magazines.

The STEM Dance Company, Bangalore.
A collection created for the STEM Dance Company, Bangalore
based on the theme of love. Three tableaux revealed a breathtaking
array of garments that flew in circles around the dancers
against the backdrop of celebrated painter Yousuf Arakal’s
canvas projections.

The regent Hotel, Mumbai.
A collection for the mafia-meets-fashion film. Twenty-one black,
beige and white ensembles, ripped and blood streaked to suit
the script of the movie. The BOOM collection was presented against
a dramatic water filled set in a spectacular movie setting.

MTV Model Mission Contest
The Seychelles.
MTV Model Mission Contest winner Mariam Andretta was transformed
with a swimwear line by Wendell Rodricks, shot over a period
of a week in the paradise islands. The MTV programme aired for
a month, five times a day on the celebrated music television
channel. |

INFUSION
The Leela Palace, Bangalore.
Ganjam Jewellers and Wendell Rodricks presented an interactive
fusion of style and jewellery. The 45 minute presentation included
makeovers for the invitees. The Wendell Rodricks collection
was worn by women of various sizes to prove that designer clothing
is not exclusive to models types. Silk crepe ensembles in warm
chocolate, navy, ashes of roses, cool pistachio and tranquil
blue coloured the fluid, flattering line. |

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON
The Grand Ballroom, Oberoi Towers, Mumbai.
Commissioned by the internationally reputed Steinmetz jewellers
to introduce their blue diamonds solitaires in India, Wendell
Rodricks created a jewel-flattering, all white collection worn
by Indian supermodels and international celebrity Danni Minogue
at one of the most exclusive, glamourous evenings of the Mumbai
social calendar. |

SENSITIVE DESIGN PROJECT
The Goa Marriott Resort, Goa.
Wendell Rodricks with Divya Arora conducted a two-day workshop
for different challenged persons to address their special clothing
needs. Visually impaired, the deaf, children without limbs,
people with autism, paralysis and other challenges were part
of the workshop. Wendell Rodricks worked with parents, teachers
and the differently challenged to design clothes that work and
are attractive as well. |

Wendell Rodricks was commissioned by Messe Frankfurt to design
the “India” display at Texworld Paris. Seven Prominent Indian

MEZZO MEZZO COLLECTION
JW Marriott, Juhu, Mumbai.
For the Mezzo collection Wendell Rodricks combined a fluid sauce
silhouette with a constructed pasta influence. While the poster
inspiration are obvious in some garments, the concept is also
tract in others. The colours used were virgin olive oil, smooth
tomato paste, tiramisu and expresso blacks, cappuccino brown
and Turquoise blue. |

The Price of Wales Museum, Mumbai.
The British Council organized the children of Cathedral John
Conan School to make garments of paper. Wendell Rodricks helped
the students design and construct this remarkable paper collection
in a two-day workshop that culminated in a grand fashion show
at the Prince of Wales Museum. |

WENDELL RODRICKS DESIGN SPACE
CAMPAL SHOP OPENING
Style icon and Screen legend Rekha lit the inaugural lamp
at the new Wendell Rodricks Design Space in Campal, Panjim.
The new Wendell Rodricks Design Space is in the old heritage
area of Campal, amidst quaint, elegant cottages built by
the Marquis de Portugal in the early 20th century. The Design
Space comprises White room which displays the signature colour
of the designer, the Mens room dedicated to mens
clothing & accessories, the Salon, a lounge space that retails
ladies wear and home linen in a home décor ambience.
The Café, overlooking the park with sewing machine base tables,
flavoured teas, Kaya Skin Zone where the reputed and reliable
Kaya Skin products with an in house Dermatologist advising
and administering treatments. On the Kaya menu are instant
Botox and fillers.

COCOON SENSE & SENSUALITY EXHIBITION
Visual Art Gallary, Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
Premiering at an art exhibition of the best artists in the country,
Wendell Rodricks is invited by Dr. Alka Pandey to create an
art installation. On a bed of eggs lit from below, edged with
fresh jasmine buds and tea lights, the bed appears to float
in air. Over the bed are suspended acrylic human forms. The
installation drew much critical acclaim and was the centerpiece
of the art exhibition. |

ASSAM SILKS FASHION SHOW
Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai & Delhi
Goa designer Wendell Rodricks was invited by Taj Palace to
choreograph a couture style presentation for Mrs. Manmohan
Singh, wife of the Prime Minister of India. Wendell Rodricks
showcased three designers Padmaja Krishnan, Jai Ramrakhiani
and Sonya Khan who worked with Assam Silk weavers over the
past year. The Goan designer was chosen because of his reputation
for perfect chorEography and knowledge of the history of
silk.
